It's a New Day, it's a New Dawn and I'm feelin' good.....!?
Thank you Michael Buble for your words of wisdom!
It's that time of year again that we reflect on what has been and what is yet to come. Strangely enough it isn't all 'Suger and Spice and all that's nice' for everyone. The pressure that is put on us to 'Be Happy' at this time of year is extraordinary.
I'm here to tell you, it's OK not to be happy sometimes. Shit happens in life, we work through it and it gets better and so on and so on.
If we look at ourselves as an empty cup that gradually fills with day to day 'stuff', that eventually spills out and empties, only to gradually fill again.
I have used this analogy for years now and it is simple but helps me to get through shit!
The important thing is to identify this and let go from time to time - empty that bloody cup!
For fear of stirring up a gender war, Blokes can be the worst for this. 'Stiff upperlip', crying is for pussies, stay strong for your family etc - keeps that shit bottled up, and that's not healthy.
Now I'm no psychologist, so take my words as wisdom or bullshit. That's for you to decide!?
For most of the Hospitality industry it is ramp up time again after coming through the Christmas period. Time for FOH to put on that smile and BOH to get hammered again. Strangely enough we thrive on it and once the smoke settles, there will be some cracking parties to ease the tension and 'empty that cup'!
So to all of you out there in Hospo land, take a bow - you deserve it!
Cheers to 2019 and come at me 2020!!
